ANTHONY M. PASQUARIELLO AWARD
Initially established in 1994 as the Barcelona Program Scholarship fund, this award was renamed in 1999 for Professor Pasquariello who established our department's Barcelona study abroad program and a scholarship endowment for students studying in Barcelona.

ALVARO MONSERRAT LLARDÉN SCHOLARSHIP IN CATALAN STUDIES
Through a generous bequest from the Monserrat family in memory of Alvaro Monserrat Llardén, the Department is able to offer a scholarship in support of the study of Catalan language, linguistics, literature, and culture. This award is open to any student, undergraduate or graduate, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeking to complete research on Catalan language, linguistics, literature, and culture. Applications available each Spring semester.

PAUL W. BORGESON STUDY-ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP
Paul W. Borgeson was a professor of Latin American literature in the Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese from 1981 until his death in 1999. Paul’s family, his wife, Mary, and his children, Jennifer and David, endowed this scholarship in Paul’s memory to honor his career and to encourage like-minded undergraduates to study in the countries of Central and South America. BONNIE S. JUGENHEIMER SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in 1985 in memory of the former student Bonnie S. Jugenheimer. The award is given to an outstanding student in the Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Spanish, with preference to a student pursuing the Teaching of Spanish. No applications are solicited for this scholarship. The outstanding student is identified by faculty among the graduating teacher candidates each spring.
JOSEPH S. FLORES AWARD
This award was established in 1995 in memory of Joseph S. Flores. The award is given to an outstanding undergraduate in Hispanic Studies. No applications are solicited for this scholarship. The outstanding student is identified by faculty among the graduating Spanish major students each spring.
SARAH E. MENONI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Through a generous bequest from the family and friends of Sarah Elizabeth Menoni in her memory. This scholarship was established in 2013 to assist a student towards a career in teaching Spanish. Sarah always wanted to become a teacher. After graduating from LAS in 2006, Sarah fulfilled that goal when she accepted a job as a Spanish teacher. Sarah was passionate about Spanish teaching, showing kindness to her students, positive attitude, sense of humor, courageous spirit and a zest for life.
Sarah lost her battle with cancer, but her legacy lives on.
The award is given to an outstanding sophomore or junior undergraduate student who is enrolled in the Department of Spanish in the College of LAS and can be renewed over two-three years. Eligibility: the student must be a continuing student registered for the next academic year, in good standing in the department, and shows progression towards their degree. The memorial is intended for someone working towards teaching Spanish at the middle school and/or high school level upon completion of their degree.
No applications are solicited for this scholarship. The outstanding student is identified by faculty within the Department of Spanish & Portuguese and chosen to receive the scholarship.

Bastian Scholarship for Study Abroad, created specifically for undergraduates who are studying to become foreign language teachers at Illinois.
Undergraduate Travel Conference Award
The Department of Spanish & Portuguese supports undergraduate research and students can apply for a conference travel grant that goes toward the cost of travel and/or presentation materials.
