This course will analyze the multiple uses of humor and laughter in contemporary Spain (20th-21st century). By looking at literary texts, films, TV series, comics, and other cultural expressions, this course will explore how sharing the same sense of humor reflects and promotes a sense of belonging to a community. A special emphasis will be given to how humor is used to both construct and contest the reshaping of different communities and identities depending on factors such as political affinities, gender, sexual orientation, and cultural diversity.
