SPANISH THEATER IN PERFORMACE

SPAN 310 - FALL 2020
Photo recreated seventeenth century outdoor theater in Spain

This course will analyze dramatic texts from seventeenth-century Spain, paying especial attention to issues of racial, gender, and class identity, and how these themes can resonate to contemporary audiences. Beyond reading and interpreting dramatic texts, the emphasis of the course will be on performance. Students will have the choice of either working on literary analysis or exploring how to adapt and perform old texts in creative ways.
