Another of our star students, Matthew Schultz, a senior pursuing a major in Spanish, French and Political Science, has been awarded the highly competitive national David L. Boren Scholarship. Mathew is one of only four University of Illinois students to receive the scholarship for the next AY. This scholarship is part of a National Security Education Program (NSEP) federal initiative aimed “to build a broader and more qualified pool of U.S. citizens with foreign language and international skills.”
As part of this NSEP program selected students have the opportunity “to add international and language components to their education by studying overseas in world regions critical to U.S. interests.” Matthew has been awarded a full scholarship to participate in the African Flagship Languages Initiative, including spending a year at the West African Research Center in Dakar, Senegal.
