Biography
Yamile Ferreira holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies with a Certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies both at Washington University in St Louis. After graduating her program, she worked as Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Center for the Humanities in a Studiolab/Ampersand course titled "Knowing Through Objects: The World of an Antique Chinese Wedding Bed" with Prof. Zhao Ma (East Asian Literatures and Cultures) and Prof. Trevor Sangrey (Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies). She also holds a B.A. in Performing Arts from the Escuela Multidisciplinaria de Arte Dramático in Montevideo, Uruguay. Among other things, Yamile worked as the Editorial Assistant of the Revista de Estudios Hispánicos.

Research Description
Yamile has published articles on feminist cinema, theatre, and performance in South America. Her current book project, “Teaching Gender: Women of Letters, Schoolteachers, and Feminists in Latin America (1830-1920),” centers on Latin American women of letters in the history of education, analyzing their intellectual networks during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and their key role in the expansion of female education as a platform to enter the public sphere.
